was born in 1960 in Sao Paulo, where he currently lives. He is a historian, with a bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree in Social History from USP. He participated in study programs in France and Russia. He was a professor at UFOP (Federal University of Ouro Preto) for five years (1998-2003). Currently, he is professor of Modern History in the History Department of USP (University of Sao Paulo). He has published six books and numerous articles in academic journals. His current line of research focuses on the history of food, drugs and alcoholic beverages. He is an associate researcher at the NEIP – Núcleo de Estudos Interdisciplinares sobre Psicoativos (Interdisciplinary Group for Psychoactive Studies)
