Breaking Convention 2017: Call for papers

 Europe's largest conference on psychedelic research, theory, and culture.This summer, on the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, the largest psychedelic research conference in Europe returns to the University of Greenwich for its fourth incarnation. Breaking Convention will be held at the Old Royal Naval College, London, 30 June – 2 July, 2017. The call for papers is now out until 31st March.Hosting approximately 150 interdisciplinary presentations over three days, across four simultaneous academic tracks, Breaking Convention is one of the biggest psychedelic meetings in the world. The conference features more than a dozen interactive workshops, a visionary art exhibition, installation gallery, psychedelic film festival, theatre and performance programme, evening banquet, and celebrations every night at the SU bar.Submit an abstract hereBuy tickets hereABSTRACTSYour abstract must be between 100-400 words and clearly describe the proposed talk. Research submissions are preferred, although data may be either qualitative or quantitative. Non-research submissions will also be considered. Along with your abstract you must attach a short biography and, where applicable, a list of relevant publications (approx. 300 words max).REVIEW PROCESS & ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
  • Submissions will be sorted into clusters and reviewed by a scientific and professional advisory committee. The final decision is the responsibility of the executive committee of the conference.
  • The review process will prioritise papers related to original, published or pre- published work from recognised fields of study.
  • Papers will be selected based on originality, relevance and credibility.
  • The abstract must clearly describe the proposed talk and, where relevant, the datasource.
  • Applicants may be from any background, with no minimum education levels,although are expected to demonstrate expertise in their area of interest. This must besummarised in the biography.
  • The abstract must be strictly relevant to the conference.
  • Abstracts must be received by the deadline of 31 March, 2017.
SUGGESTED THEMESAbstracts must be pertinent to the overall theme of the conference: the mechanisms, uses and implications of altered states of consciousness, particularly those occasioned by psychedelic compounds and practices.Some suggested topics are listed below:– Psychedelic Psychiatry & Medicine– Psychedelic Neuroscience & Mechanisms.– Psychedelics & Philosophy– Psychedelics, Time & Perception– Non-Drug Altered States of Consciousness (ASCs). – Psychedelics & Poetic Expression– Psychedelics, Healing & Spirituality– Drug Policy & Activism– Psychedelic History, Literature & Ethnography.– Psychedelics in Anthropology & ArchaeologyREIMBURSEMENT AND SUBSIDYThose whose submissions are accepted will be reserved discounted entry to Breaking Convention. Unfortunately, we are not able to subsidise expenses and the discount is limited to one ticket per speaker. Breaking Convention tries very hard to keep its ticket prices as low as possible, and consequently we are only able to provide financial help to our invited speakers. If your abstract is accepted, you will be required to register for the conference to confirm.
