"A temática “Religião e Natureza” é familiar ao ser humano desde a antigüidade, nas mais diversas civilizações. Discute-se a “volta” do homem à natureza, no contexto do fluxo e refluxo do pensamento ocidental, que em grande parte suprimiu a noção de encantos da natureza, a partir da fragmentação.
Examina-se o reencontro do ser humano com a natureza no caso da religiosidade aqui estudada, a qual tem seu fundamento nas práticas dos indígenas da região Amazônica que preservaram sua antiga ligação com a natureza. Estuda-se, também, como se deu o elo de ligação entre os indígenas e os seringueiros, razão de ser desta religiosidade.
Estuda-se o nascimento da Religiosidade Cabocla, cujos maiores representantes são o Santo Daime e a União do Vegetal, e o deslocamento desta religiosidade em direção às cidades, na época dos seus fundadores.
Apresenta e analisa o sistema de crenças da União do Vegetal, apontando possíveis motivos pelos quais a classe média o adota nos grandes centros urbanos, como é o caso de uma comunidade paulista pesquisada.
Por fim, procura ver as comunidades da União do Vegetal como Comunidades Terapêuticas ou oásis, no interior das quais se encontram respostas para as perguntas existenciais dos adeptos."
Abstract:
"The theme “Religion and Nature” is familiar to human beings since antiquity, in the most diverse of civilizations. The discussion of the “return” of humans to nature, in the context of the give and take of western thought, in great part abolished the notion of the enchantments of nature, due to fragmentation.
This study examines the re-encounter of human beings with nature, in the case of the specified religiosity, which has its foundation in the practices of persons indigenous to the Amazon region who have preserved their ancient connection with nature. Also studied is the relationship between this group of indigenous persons and the process of extracting latex from the rubber tree, the reason for the existence of this religiosity.
Studied also is the birth of Cabocla Religiosity, whose greatest representatives are Saint Daime and the Union of the Vegetable, and the dislocation of this religiosity toward the cities, in the age of its founders.
An analysis is presented of the belief system of the Union of the Vegetable, pointing to possible motives for its adoption by the middle class in the great urban centers, as is the case for a community in the area of São Paulo which was surveyed.
Finally, the study seeks to see the communities of the Union of the Vegetable as Therapeutic Communities or Oases, in the midst of which its followers find answers to existential questions."
