Scholarships for DPA's International Drug Policy Reform Conference
Message sent by Daniel Robelo to Alto das Estrelas:
"On behalf of Ethan Nadelmann and the Drug Policy Alliance (DPA), I am very pleased to announce that we have raised $15,000 to enable drug policy reformers from Latin America to participate in the 2007 International Drug Policy Reform Conference, December 5-8 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
DPA—the leading organization working to reform drug policy in the United States—is seeking a diverse and enthusiastic contingent of Latin American citizens to join us in strategizing how to bring the international war on drugs to an end.
We are particularly eager to assist those who have never before attended an International Drug Policy Reform Conference, but anyone can apply for support. Scholarship awards will be based on need for financial assistance as well as potential to have an impact on drug policy in Latin America. Unfortunately, DPA will not be able to provide translation services.
Given the relatively modest amount of funding, and because we would like to help as many people as possible to attend the conference, it will not be possible to provide full scholarships. Please request only what you need for travel and lodging in order to attend. Conference registration fees will be waived in full for all scholarship recipients.
For more information, and to learn how to apply, please visit: http://kessjones.com/conf07/scholarships.html. There you will find general scholarship information—for U.S., Latin American, and other international applicants. You will also be directed to our application form, http://www.regonline.com/DPAscholarship, where you will need to click one of two boxes: please click the box, “I am from Latin America.” Then click “Continue” and fill out the remainder of the form. You will be notified by email if your application is completed successfully or not. The deadline to apply is November 5, 2007. Please feel free to contact me if you have any problems with the application process.
I would also greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word about our scholarship awards; please forward widely to any individuals and organizations who you feel might be interested. In addition, if you know of any eligible candidates who would be especially interested in attending, please do not hesitate to send me their contact information and/or encourage them to apply.
Our conference is a forum unlike any other in the U.S., and the participation of Latin Americans who are dedicated to global drug policy reform will greatly enrich this important event. In turn, scholarship recipients will be able to return to their home countries as more effective and committed advocates for drug policy reform and apply what they have learned to their local work.
Thanks in advance for your assistance and your important work. We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans.
Sincerely,
Daniel Robelo
